Dr. Houser provides cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery including breast implants, breast lift, breast reduction (reduction mammaplasty) and breast reconstruction. Dr. Houser also provides implant revision, replacement, and removal surgery.
Brief descriptions of each procedure are listed below on this page. However, for more detailed information, including faqs on each surgery, please click on the name of the desired procedure below.
- Breast implants are usually chosen when a women would like to increase the size of her breasts or replace lost volume.
- Breast lifts (mastopexy) are performed to reshape and lift the breasts. In addition, a breast lift repositions the nipple so that it is higher on the breast. A breast lift can be performed with or without breast implants.
- Breast reduction surgery (reduction mammaplasty) is usually aimed at reducing the volume of the breast to alleviate such ailments as neck and back pain, shoulder pain and rashes beneath the breasts.
- Breast reconstruction (breast reconstruction) can be provided following a lumpectomy or a mastectomy. The choice between lumpectomy and mastectomy is a choice that is made with the help of your breast cancer surgeon (either a breast cancer specialist or a general surgeon). A lumpectomy, also called partial mastectomy or breast conservation surgery, is an option for breast cancer treatment for many women. This is sometimes combined with reconstructive surgery to reshape the breast at the time of the initial surgery either as a breast lift or breast reduction as well as matching procedures on the unaffected breast. Radiation therapy is then often used after surgery to complete the cancer treatment.
If a woman chooses mastectomy, then reconstruction should be offered. A plastic surgery consultation will provide information regarding the various reconstructive techniques and which may be best for you.
