Abdominoplasty For Men
Many men who have lost a significant amount of weight find that they are left with excess skin that no amount of exercise will eliminate. With weight gain, the abdominal muscles (rectus abdominus muscles) can become separated. In addition, the abdominal skin becomes stretched during weight gain. After the weight is lost, the skin in unable to shrink back to its former shape. Abdominoplasty repairs and tightens the muscles and removes the excess skin, leaving the patient with a firm, flat abdomen. Many men who have lost weight and worked hard to get back in shape find that abdominoplasty helps them to look and feel physically fit.
Liposuction (traditional liposuction, VASER lipo, Smart lipo) is effective on small pockets of fat. However, liposuction cannot tighten large amounts of skin, remove skin, or repair stretched muscles. If you just have a little excess fat, liposuction might be for you. However, if you want to remove excess skin and tighten your abdominal muscles (leaving you with six-pack abs)abdominoplasty is the answer. During a consultation in our Columbus Ohio office, Dr. Houser can recommend the procedure that will give you the results that you are looking for.
Recovery from abdominoplasty is about 2 weeks. Most men who work in an office are able to return to work within a week—sometimes sooner. If you have a more physically active job, it could be two weeks.
The majority of abdominoplasty surgeries are outpatient procedures in our AAAASF accredited facility. Occasionally, other factors require abdominoplasty to be performed in the hospital. Dr. Houser can discuss this with you at your consultation.
